Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is keen to extend his Premier League career once his contract expires at the Premier League champions in the summer. The Ivory Coast international is expected to be released by the Citizens at the end of the month but the 34-year-old does not have plans of moving overseas for next season.
Speaking on Sky Sports, agent Dimitri Seluk highlighted that his client is keen on staying put in the English top-flight and the Ivorian is prepared to return half of his salary, should he fail to impress with a new Premier League club, he said: “Yaya is fit and desperate to prove he’s still the best central midfielder in the Premier League. Ivory Coast will not be in Russia for the World Cup and next season he will be fit, rested and stronger than ever. He’s happy to accept a one-year deal to stay in England. And if his club are not satisfied with his performances, he will pay back half his wages, or the club can cancel his contract immediately with no compensation.”
Toure had been a regular for the Citizens until the current campaign where the likes of Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan, and Kevin de Bruyne have commanded the central midfield roles. Nevertheless, the midfielder has remained loyal to the club over the course of the campaign and he has now set his sights on a new challenge in the Premier League owing to personal reasons.
Toure’s children have remained settled in Manchester over the course of the past eight years and the midfielder does not have plans to relocate anytime in the future. As of now, Everton have been tipped as favourites to acquire his services, though the Toffees could yet face competition from recently-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Wolves have made some quality young signings over the past year but they could do with an experienced head in their midfield.
