Calderon urges Real Madrid against signing Paul Pogba from United

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has urged Los Blancos against making a move for Paul Pogba due to the midfielder’s regular change in mentality. The France international was said to hold a rift with manager Jose Mourinho prior to the Portuguese’s departure at the midway stage of the previous season and Calderon believes such an attitude makes him a dangerous prospect.

Speaking to SunSport, he said: “I think it is risky. It’s dangerous because he has proven his behaviour is not the best in some moments for a club like Real Madrid. He wants to be the protagonist many times, he is fighting with the coaches or sometimes with team-mates. That record is a bit dangerous in my opinion. Players can change if the atmosphere is different and they find the right players and coach. In this case, it seems Zidane is keen on him and that could change his character.”

Real Madrid have yet to make a formal approach to pursue the former Juventus man but reports have indicated that an offer may not be far off with Zinedine Zidane being a huge admirer of the 2018 World Cup winner. Moreover, the midfielder himself has spoken about the dream of playing for the Bernabeu giants and he has recently gone public to suggest that he would prefer a fresh challenge ahead of next season.

Los Blancos have been very active during the early phase of the summer and they have already recruited five players including Eden Hazard for a spending spree of more than £250m. The arrivals are likely to continue during the forthcoming weeks with the club expected to test United’s resolve with an offer of more than £100m for Pogba. The Red Devils are currently said to hold no ambition of sanctioning Pogba’s sale, though a transfer request from the midfielder may change their stance.
