One of the players who have been at the centre of several transfer rumours in the last couple of months is Napoli’s central defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese international player has been attracting a lot of interest from various clubs across Europe because of his commanding performances for the Italian Serie A club. Since making a name for himself at the Naples, he has reportedly been linked with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Manchester United, Juventus, and Liverpool.
Manchester United were one of the clubs that came the closest to signing him two transfer windows ago but the Red Devils refrained from any rumour linking him to them after Napoli president announced that the player would not be leaving the club for anything less than £100 million. Since then, the list of clubs showing interest in the player has started reducing, but the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have still rooted themselves in the queue.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was recently asked if the club will be pursuing a deal for Koulibaly in the summer, but the German tactician was coy with his response, saying that the defender is still a Napoli player and also that he does not have any information to give out.
The Reds do need a proven central defender in the summer who will be a rock-solid partner to Van Dijk when the Netherlands international defender returns from injury but it’s unclear whether Koulibaly will be that man.
