The Teranga Lions of Senegal became the first African country to seal a place in the third round of the qualifiers for next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament on Qatari soil thanks to the 3-1 win over hosts Namibia. FamaraDiedhiou was the star of the show as he found the back of the net three times to lead Senegal to an impressive win over the Namibians.
Diedhiou scored his second goal of the game six minutes after restart as Senegal reclaimed the lead. The Alanyaspor attacker then made sure of the points with his treble goal six minutes from time. His hattrick made it four goals in two games against Namibia.
Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane was rested for the game between Senegal and Namibia and the Teranga Lions still won convincingly without their star player thanks to the performance of Alanyasporplayer FamaraDiedhiou. The game was the last of the double header between the two nations in Group H of the second round (African qualifiers). In the first game, Liverpool star Mane was responsible for one of the goals in a 4-1 home win over the Nambians. The Liverpool player has now scored three goals in the African qualifiers (second round).
Senegal have been in very good form in their group with four wins from four games thus opening an unassailable eight-point lead at the top of Group H. The Teranga Lions have been joined by the Atlas Lions of Morocco in Group I after a record of four wins from four games.
