CARRAGHER QUESTIONS ISAK TO ARSENAL

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has cast doubt on whether Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak would choose Arsenal this summer. The Swedish forward, who has netted 19 goals in all competitions this season, has been linked with a move to the Emirates, but Carragher believes Liverpool could be a more attractive destination.

Isak has been mentioned as a potential solution for Mikel Arteta’s side, with Arsenal looking to strengthen their attack. However, Carragher questioned the likelihood of Newcastle allowing him to leave, particularly when he still has several years remaining on his contract. Speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Carragher said, “There’s a lot of talk about Isak. It feels like people assume Arsenal are going to sign him or that Arsenal need to sign him. But as an Arsenal fan, do you really think it’s realistic to buy Isak from Newcastle?”

Carragher went on to highlight that Liverpool may have a greater need for a centre-forward than Arsenal. “I think Liverpool are desperate for a centre forward if I’m being totally honest,” he said. “There’s no talk about Liverpool getting Isak, and I don’t understand why all the speculation is around Arsenal. If Liverpool win the league, and he was to go, surely he would pick the team that won the league.”

Reports suggest Isak could command a fee of around £150 million ($185m/€180m) this summer. While Liverpool currently have Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez as options through the middle, none have fully cemented themselves as a consistent, injury-free striker. If Liverpool enter the race, Isak could face a difficult choice between a title-winning project and Arsenal’s ongoing rebuild.
