Neymar may face disciplinary actions from the regulatory body UEFA after the player was caught on record swapping shirt with RB Leipzig player after the Tuesday game. This is a norm in regular times but due to measures UEFA put in place in Project Restart of the Champions League, this clearly violates the procedures.
UEFA released a 31-page document that spelt out clearly the procedures for extensive health and safety measures. While swapping of shirts was advised against, there was no clear punishment. Analyst say the player may be asked to quarantine for 14 days and miss the next game. However, seeing it is Neymar and that would mar PSG chances, the punishment could be fine. As at the press time, UEFA were yet to advise on the issue.
The 28-year old has powered PSG to their first Champions League final. Their defence responds quickly but the attack is the icing. With Neymar and Mbappe, PSG stand a decent chance to stop Bayern. Mbappe just recovered from injury and has not been as sharp but his well-timed runs into the opposition box is yet dangerous. Whether it’s Mauro Icardi, Angel di Maria or Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the attack is potent enough to frustrate Jerome Boateng, Niklas Sule and David Alaba.
Bayern will likely win the midfield battle and their clinical attack is one to be wary off. The problem is if they play a high line, once the press is broken, PSG can quickly move faster than Bayern’s defence and punish them. Bayern would then need to outscore their rivals to win the treble they are chasing since 2013. PSG themselves just won their fourth domestic treble in six years. This comes down to tactics and being clinical on Sunday. It’s just one game but the Champions League title!
