Alex Neil has confirmed that Norwich City will be without defender Nathan Redmond for a few weeks. This comes as a major blow for the club hoping to avoid relegation.
The manager recently claimed that the next five matches will have a huge say in the club’s Premier League status for next season. Even though Norwich have been struggling with relegation fight throughout the campaign, they remain within touching distance of safety. The defender injured his ankle in recent 0-0 draw with Manchester City. This injury meant that he had to pull out of the latest England under 21 squad.
A key performer for Norwich, Redmond has more than just been about defending his goal. He has been able to get forward much more frequently than any other right back in the division. This has seen the England international come up with five goals and two assists. Neil is aware that he will not have this attacking intent over the next few matches.
However, it is imperative for the team to find a good replacement given that their next few matches will be against teams in and around them in the table. This gives them a great opportunity to get out of the drop zone.
Neil has expressed his desire to see Norwich scoring goals much more easily.
“Nathan will be out for a few weeks. He will still definitely play a part in our season. It’s a case of time and getting him back to speed. This is the start of a crucial run of five games where we’ve got to get as many points as we can and make an impact. We’ve been searching for a balance all season in keeping tight at the back but still maintaining a threat going forwards,” said the Norwich manager ahead of the meeting with West Brom.
