This is THE goal that sent Michael Owen’s world into a spin. Aged just 18, he took on some of the world’s very best and ended up smashing the ball past a world-class goalkeeper, and all in the space of just 11 seconds!?
This goal didn’t even prove to be decisive – England still crashed out after – but it brought so much hope and unexpected joy to a nation of football lovers that it will never be forgotten.
After this goal, Owen could have gone anywhere and played for anyone – there was even talk of a £50m bid from Inter for the talented Liverpool striker. Whilst he went on to play for both Real Madrid and Manchester United, he probably never quite went as high as this single strike took him. Enjoy! (and good luck in retirement Michael!)
