Rooney to Everton?

There are media reports that Wayne Rooney might choose to return to Everton at the end of the season. The Manchester United forward started his career with the Merseyside team and might opt to end his career with them.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has already stated that he wants the player at Everton and that he will make everything he can in order to get the player at the end of the season.

It is becoming increasingly likely that the Manchester United forward might want to leave the Red Devils after news of a move to China collapse.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic likely to be given a new contract at the end of the season and news that Manchester United are looking to bring Antoine Griezmann to Old Trafford it appears that Rooney will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho has previously stated that he wants Wayne Rooney to remain with the club but the England international fear that he will have less playing time in the future and that it might be much better for him that he leaves the club. Whilst the odds on him leaving don’t quite match those of one of the favourites on cheltenhamday.co.uk, he is just 2/1 to be plying his trade elsewhere at the start of the 2017/18 season, compared to 3/1 that he will stay put at Old Trafford.

It is believed that Everton has already made attempts to take the player on loan during the January transfer window, but Manchester United has refused stating that the player is a valuable member of the team. However, with Mourinho already announcing that he will be signing new players at the end of the season, it appears that Wayne Rooney will have more competition within the team.

Ronald Koeman has stated that he wants to sign the player and he believes that Rooney can be a major player for them next season as they attempt to build a side that will allow them to qualify for European competition. He said that he has been a long-time admirer of the player and that he will be happy to have him at Everton.
